The 45th district (Mimi) looks like it's going to have at least one Democrat for November. Please do your research and decide who best represents your positions. Dave Min is the candidate endorsed by the CA Democratic Party, and Katie Porter is endorsed by Emily's List. Brian Forde is also strong, as is Kia Hamandachy. In my opinion, we can't go wrong with any of the Dems, but I'm trying to look at who will fare best in November. My guess is Dave; he has a large organization and he will be strong in the Asian-American community. We need to choose someone who is not too far left to bring in disenchanted Republicans and NPP's (no party preference).
The 48th district (Rohrabacher) is not looking good. There are too many Dems running. There's a good chance 2 Republicans will end up in the November election. Hopefully some Dems will drop out so we don't have a Trump-repeat, but egos get in the way. The best I can tell you is look at the polls and pick the leader. Again, can't be too liberal.
As for down-ballot offices, I will try to get some information about local candidates, but we must try to add some Democrats to the offices that govern our county. Recently the Orange County Board of Supervisors voted to support Trump's lawsuit regarding sanctuary cities AGAINST CA! We have to have our voices heard locally.
Board of Education: The Canyon Democrats endorsed Mary Navarro for the Board. This is a very important election - the winner of the Board seat in the primary WINS! There's no election for this position in November. The primary is it! And the choice is clear - pro-public schools versus charter schools.
Here are some comments from Mary.
We were asleep and unprepared for the outcome of the presidential election, and I fear we may be distracted by the congressional elections and miss our opportunities to win our local elections.
This seat represents a once in a decade opportunity to flip a pro-charter seat in a heavily Republican territory to a pro-student/pro-teacher/pro-public education seat on the county Board of Education.
My opponent's supporters include California Charter Association, Family First, the Lincoln Club, Chapman University, and the Republican Party who want to dismantle the public school system in favor of privatization. Moreover, my opponent wants to eliminate the California Healthy Youth Act which provides students with required sexual and reproductive education, mental heath support for depression, anger management, conflict resolution, and suicide prevention—as well as gender identification and support for LGBTQ students.
The time is NOW for everyone to understand the importance of this seat and what needs to be done. A traditional campaign of reaching out to Democrats, teachers and union workers will not be enough to win. We need to reach out to Republicans, moderates, NPPs and others outside of our traditional coalition to win.
So now is the time to put our money where our mouth is! VOTE -- get 10 others to VOTE! Our future and our children's future is at stake.
