Great election news yesterday! It’s not just the wins in Governor races and state races, it’s the enthusiasm, the energy, and finally the shift from old white men to the real population. 11 women replaced 15 men in the Virginia legislature. Maine became the 1st state to pass Medicaid expansion through a ballot initiative, subverting the Republican plan to undo ObamaCare. So many wonderful stories of women and immigrants asserting their place in our American Democracy. Something to be proud of!
I believe the issues are clear – pro-Choice, Women’s rights, LGBT rights, gun control, and opportunities for all. But frankly, I don’t believe it’s about the issues. I believe Trump-ism is a backlash against Obama and Hillary that gives a platform for racism and misogyny. It’s us against them. And there are more of us than them – as Hillary proved. So let’s take back all the states – and then the country.
Here in Orange County, CA, 2 of our representatives show up on the top 10 list of House seats to be flipped – Daryl Issa (#1) and Dana Rohrabacher. It actually seems do-able! So let’s keep working.
